The wearing of hats by Masons during their work dates back to the 18th century, when they were associated with the wearing of swords. How to reshape your felt headgear?
Steam restores felt to its original appearance, softening it temporarily. You can then reshape it simply by hand.
What's the procedure in practice?
1) Boil hot water in a kettle or saucepan to create steam.
2) Place the edge of your headgear over the steam, avoiding direct contact with the water.
3) Patiently shape the brim of your hat with your fingers.
4) To reshape the crown, smooth by placing your hand inside the hat.
